Woman in bid to renounce Islam told to get counselling

A Syariah High Court here has asked a woman who wants to renounce Islam to first get counselling from the state Islamic Affairs Department.

The court postponed its decision on the application by Siti Fatimah Tan Abdullah to Dec 3, pending a report from the department's ukhwah unit (a Muslim fellowship unit).

I wonder why the Chinese asked her to seek counselling. Maybe they want the Islamic Affairs Department to have some time to issue a fatwa declaring her an apostate?
